Crazy Tag Soccer

How To Play

Same as the usual crazy tag but this time each person has a ball.

*If you do not have enough balls for each student, you can assign some students without a ball to tag the students who are kneeling and set them free to get up.

Objective

A fast, high-energy dribbling + tag game where everyone is “It.” Players work on close control while keeping their head up to avoid getting tagged.

Set-Up

  • Area: Mark a large rectangle grid with cones (adjust size based on group size and skill).

  • Teams: Everyone for themselves (free-for-all).

  • Starting Position: All players begin inside the grid with a ball (ideally 1 per player).

How to Play

  1. Start: On the whistle, everyone is “It” and begins dribbling inside the grid.

  2. Goal: While dribbling your own ball, try to tag another player on the shoulder.

  3. If you get tagged:

    • Kneel down immediately in place, keeping your ball with you.

  4. Re-entry rule (how to get back in):

    • Watch the person who tagged you.

    • When that tagger gets tagged and kneels down, you can stand up and rejoin the game.

  5. Tie rule: If two players tag each other at the exact same time:

    • They immediately play Rock–Paper–Scissors.

    • Winner stays up, loser kneels down and waits for the winner to get tagged (then they can return).

  6. How the game ends:

    • Play until one player remains standing, or run it for a set time limit and restart.

Progressions / Variations

Limited equipment: If you don’t have enough balls, students without balls become “Liberators” who can tag kneeling players to set them free instantly.

Buddy Alliances (2/3/4-person teams)

  • Create teams either 2/3/4 students.

  • If you get tagged and kneel down, your buddy can revive you by:

    • High-five revive: buddy dribbles over and gives you a high-five (or quick fist bump).

    • Once revived, you stand up and play continues.

  • Rule: Buddy must keep their ball moving while reviving (no standing still).

Boys vs. Girls (or any 2 big teams)

  • Split into two large teams.

  • If tagged, players kneel.

  • Revive rule:

    • A teammate can revive with a tag/high-five while dribbling.

  • Win option: Team with the most players standing after 2–3 minutes wins (then reset).

Force Field Spots (Hula Hoops or Spot Markers)

  • Place 4–8 hoops/spots around the grid.

  • Players can step into a hoop/spot to be safe from tags.

  • Rules to keep it fair:

    • Max 3 seconds in a force field.

    • Only 1 player per hoop/spot (or 2 max if you want it faster).

    • After using a hoop, you must leave and dribble 5 steps before using another.

Coach Throw Catch = Instant Free

  • If a player is tagged and kneeling, the coach can toss a ball (soccer ball or soft foam ball).

  • The kneeling player must catch it clean to be freed.

  • If they drop it, they stay kneeling and can try again later.

  • Level up options:

    • Catch with two hands only.

    • Coach tosses from farther away.

    • Player must clap once before the catch.

Quick Notes to Keep It Smooth

  • Revives must be fast (no camping by a teammate).

  • Force fields need a timer or kids will hide.

  • Keep games in short rounds (1–3 minutes) so everyone resets and stays engaged.

The Game Encourages

  • Ball control under pressure

  • Quick decisions and strategy

  • Fair play + honesty (kneel immediately when tagged)
