Pizza Tag
Set-Up
Create an area. Select one, two, or three students to be the chefs. The rest of the students line up along one end line.
Then assign a pizza ingredient to each student, e.g. student 1 = cheese, student 2 = pepperoni, student 3 = pineapple, student 4 = sausage, student 5 = cheese, student 6 = pepperoni, etc.
How to Play
The chef(s) call out a pizza ingredient, 'CHEESE.' The students designated as 'cheese' attempt to run across to the opposite side of the area. Without getting tagged by the chef(s).
If a student is tagged, they must go into the oven.
CHOOSE OF RULES:
Once the chefs have two of each ingredient for their pizza in the oven, the game ends, and you select new chefs.OR:
Once a chef tags another student, they then become another chef and help catch other students.
'CHEESE.' The students designated as 'cheese' attempt to run across to the opposite side of the area. Without getting tagged by the chef(s).
Progressions
SAFE ZONE — "The Cupboard"
Lay 2 or 3 hula hoops in the open space between the end lines. A student running across may stop inside a hoop and count to five out loud — the chefs cannot tag them there.
At five they must leave, and they cannot return to the same hoop on that run. One player per hoop.
Students can have safety for up to 5 seconds by stopping in the cupboard as they run across the kitchen.
EQUIPMENT — "Dropped Toppings"
Every student carries a bean bag, ball or small item in one hand as they run.
If get tagged they drop the item on the floor where they stand, then go to the oven or become a chef.
Any student running past can stop, scoop it up and carry it on — and keep collecting.
Whoever is holding the most items at the end of the round, wins.
STUDENT CHOICE — "Build Your Own"
Same game, but to make the game more fun, ask the kids for different ingredient options for the pizza. For instance, students may say gummy worms, potatoes, and lego.
POWER-UP — "Supreme Pizza!"
Instead of naming an ingredient, the chef shouts "SUPREME PIZZA!" and every student runs at once.
Chefs have to pick one target instead of chasing everything. Call it about once a minute.
When all students run, ensure you have enough chefs to help tag and be aware of safety risks.
