About the Tournament
Active Education’s Soccer Program helps students build skills, confidence, and teamwork through fun, engaging activities. Using our FUNdamental curriculum, players learn soccer techniques while developing leadership and social skills.
The semester concludes with the Lowell Joint Soccer Championships — featuring 5v5 scrimmages for grades 4–6 and 3v3 scrimmages for grades 1–3. This event provides students a chance to showcase their progress, celebrate teamwork, and enjoy the game in a spirited setting.
5v5 Mini-Tournament Schedule

Winner:
The school with the most accumulated points at the end of the tournament will be declared the champion.
5v5 Rules - Elementary Games
Team Structure:
Each team can have up to 5 players on the field at a time.
A team can have 4 outfield players and 1 goalkeeper on the field.
Substitutions:
Substitutions can be made anytime during the game when the ball is out of play, and there is no limit.
Outgoing substitutes must leave the field before the replacement enters.
New players can immediately participate and receive the ball.
Substitutes must stay outside the field, and spectators cannot enter.
Game Structure:
The match is 10 minutes.
No halftime
The Kick-off is decided by 1 player from the opposing team playing ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS. The winner chooses who has the kick-off first half.
The game restarts with a kickoff after a goal is scored.
Teams can change their goalkeeper at any time.
Field Restrictions:
There are two marked goal/penalty areas on the field.
Only the defending goalkeeper can play and handle the ball inside the goal area.
General Play:
There are no off-sides.
Throw-ins.
A goal can be scored from any point on the field.
Goalkeepers can score against opponents except for a dead-ball goal kick.
A goal is scored when the entire ball crosses the goal line.
Goals can be scored by any player on the field, from corner kicks, kick-ins, and direct free-kicks.
Re-Starting the Game:
The goalkeeper must throw or pass the ball to restart play from their area without going beyond the halfway line or touching another player. If they do, they retake the restart.
Opponents must stand behind the play-out line when the keeper has the ball and only move forward once the keeper throws or kicks the ball.
If the ball goes out of play behind the goal line, a corner kick or goal kick is awarded based on the team with the final touch.
If the ball goes out of play over the sideline, a throw-in is awarded based on the team with the final touch.
Free Kicks and Penalty Kicks:
All free kicks are direct.
Opposing players must be at least 3 yards away from the free-kick spot. The referee can issue a warning if they don't retreat.
If a free kick is awarded near the goal area, it can be moved up to 3 yards backward to allow defenders space.
Penalty kicks should rarely be given unless a clear and aggressive foul.
Player Safety:
Rough play and actions like spitting, biting, pushing, pulling shirts, tripping, or using inappropriate language are not allowed. They result in free kicks and warnings.
Players cannot wear jewelry, including watches or earrings, during play. The referee's discretion applies.

No scores or points will be kept for these games. At this age, the focus is on playing, learning, and having fun rather than competition.
