Session 3.

Warm-Up

Free Play with Focus (2 minutes)

  • All players: Grab a ball and spend the next two minutes practicing whatever soccer skills you want to improve.

  • Age-Specific Suggestions:

    • Younger players: Try different ways to change direction while keeping the ball close to you. Can you stop quickly, turn, or dribble around cones?

    • Older players: Challenge yourself with juggling or advanced dribbling moves. How many juggles can you do in a row? Can you master a new dribbling trick?

Key Points:

  • The main goal is to let players have some fun and explore their skills.

  • The age-specific suggestions offer guidance but aren't mandatory.

  • If time allows, briefly demonstrate a few dribbling moves or juggling techniques before they start.

Game #1.

Fornite - 15/20 minutes

Set Up

  • Each student has a soccer ball.

How to Play - Non Elimination

  • Kick it Out! Everyone tries to kick or dribble their ball to knock other players' balls out of the playing area.

  • Fortnite Dance Comeback: If your ball gets knocked out, you can get back in the game by doing a Fortnite dance of your choice! (Examples: Pull Up, Default Dance, Do the Griddy, Chicken Wing).

Introduce New Condition

  • Forcefields: Create safe zones (mark them with cones or something similar) where players can dribble their ball in and be protected from having it kicked out for 10 seconds.

  • Time to unleash the Fortnite Bots! Pick a few players who will be the Bots. They don't get a ball, but they can use their feet to kick other players' balls out of bounds. Watch out!

Elimination

  • Finish the game where they can be eliminated.

  • Elimination: If your ball gets knocked out, you're out!

  • Time to unleash the Fortnite Bots! Pick a few players who will be the Bots. They don't get a ball, but they can use their feet to kick other players' balls out of bounds. Watch out!

  • Last One Standing: The game continues until there's only one player left with their ball still in the area – that player is the winner!

Remember:

  • Emphasize safety and good sportsmanship.

  • Adjust the rules or area size as needed to keep the game fun and challenging for everyone.

  • Encourage creativity and let the kids have a blast!

Game #2.

Soccer Relay Race - 15/20 minutes

Set-up

  • Relay races are a fantastic way to get lots of students involved in a fun, organized, and competitive activity. The key to a great relay is to start simple and then add challenges as you go. This soccer relay is just an example, so feel free to get creative with the equipment you have!

How to Play

Teams: Divide the students into 3-4 teams. Assign each team a color, number, or name (like a country).

  1. The Course: Set up a cone or disc as a turning point some distance away from the starting line.

  2. Go!: On your command, the first player from each team dribbles the soccer ball around the cone and back to the start.

  3. Tag In: When they get back, they pass the ball to the next teammate.

  4. Keep Going: Each player repeats the dribbling course and tags the next person in line.

  5. Finish Line: After completing their turn, players sit down in a straight, quiet line with their hand raised.

  6. Winner: The first team with all players lined up in order, quiet, and with hands raised wins!

Progression 1: Add a Pass

  1. Stationary Player: One player from each team stands near the cone and stays there the whole race.

  2. Dribble and Pass: The other players dribble to the cone, make a pass to their teammate, and receive a pass back.

  3. Back to Start: They then dribble back to the start and tag the next player.

Progression 2: Add a Shot

  1. The player must now dribble to a goal and score before returning to the start.

  2. Tag In: Once they score, they get the ball, dribble back to the start and pass the ball to the next teammate.

Scrimmages

Set Up

  • Divide the players into two groups and organize a 5v5 game on each field.

  • Use the bibs to clearly distinguish the teams.

Your Role

  • Facilitate Understanding: Make sure the players understand the basic rules of the game. Clarify any questions they have and ensure everyone is on the same page.

  • Skill Integration: At the beginning of each game, remind the players of the specific skill they practiced during the warm-up and the fun games. Encourage them to actively try and use that skill during the game. Example: If the games focused on dribbling, you might say something like, "Remember those dribbling moves we just practiced? Let's see you use them to get past defenders and create scoring chances!"

Additional Tips

  • Observe and Provide Feedback: Watch the games closely and offer positive feedback and constructive suggestions to individual players and teams.

  • Keep it Fun: Maintain a positive and encouraging atmosphere. The main goal is for the kids to enjoy playing and learning.

  • Be Flexible: Adjust the game format or rules if necessary to ensure everyone is engaged and having a good time.

Remember, your enthusiasm and guidance will go a long way in helping the players develop their skills and love for the game!

End Chat

Bring the group in at the end of the session and ask questions about the what they just worked on. Examples:

Q. What did you do in the session?

Q. What did you learn?

Give stickers out to kids who did well.

Choose a child who did a great job and they choose the end cheer for the group.
