Feed The Frog
Objective:
Feed the frog and make him jump across the lily pads toward your team!
By tossing bean bags into the hoop, your team can move the ‘frog’ tall cone closer to your side of the pond.
Set-up:
Place a hula hoop in the middle of the area.
Mark a “pond” using small cones in a straight line with a tall cone (the frog) in the center.
Divide players into two teams, positioned on opposite sides of the hoop, equal distance away.
Each team starts with bean bags.
How to Play:
Each team takes turns throwing one bean bag into the hoop.
If one team makes it in and the other misses, that team earns a point and moves the ‘frog’ tall cone, one lily pad closer to them.
If both teams score or both miss, the ‘frog’ tall cone stays where it is.
The first team to get the frog all the way across the pond to their side wins!
Progressions / Variations
Different Distances: Move the throwing line farther back each round.
Hop Like a Frog: Before throwing, players must do a frog jump or hop on one leg.
Weaker Arm Throw: Players must use their non-dominant arm.
Backward Throw: Players toss over their shoulder while facing away.
Dinner Time!: Each team has 3 bean bags. If a team calls “DINNER TIME!” and makes all 3 into the hoop, the ‘frog’ tall cone moves straight to their second point line. If they miss any, the other team moves the frog toward their side instead. Each team only has one ‘Dinner Time’ opportunity per game.
Moving Hoop: Have a leader gently move the hoop side-to-side or forward/backward while players throw.
Feed The Frog - STEM (Maths)
Variation: Maths Frog
Place multiple hoops at different distances, each worth a different number of points (e.g., close = 1 point, medium = 2 points, far = 3 points).
Each team gets 3 bean bags per round.
After throwing, teams add up their total points.
The team with the higher score moves the frog towards their side.
Extension – Addition & Subtraction:
After scoring, teams compare their totals.
The difference between the two scores is how many spaces the frog moves.
Example: Team Blue scores 2 points, Team Magenta scores 6 points → Magenta wins by 4 points → the frog moves 4 lily pads closer to Magenta’s side.
