Sharks N Minnows
Game Explained
Space:
Students stay in marked area. A field you use for a game will broadly be applicable.
Task:
The minnows with their ball must get to the other side without the shark kicking their ball off the field. If they do they join them and become a shark. Last minnow left standing.
Equipment:
Ball for all the minnows.
People:
All participants.
Outcomes –Travel with the ball at different speeds, changing direction and identifying space.
Variations/ Progressions
- Space: Adjust area to suit numbers/abilities. E.g. Smaller space makes it harder for the minnows.
- Task: Add boxes or dots (islands) that the Minnows can take the ball into/ on where they are ‘safe’ on their journey across the Ocean. Change the task for the shark –Instead of kicking the ball out, they have to touch the ball and/or they have to win it back and dribble into one of the boxes.
- Equipment: Use cones/dots to mark the minnow’s safe areas.
- People: Challenge the more able minnows to dribble near the sharks and reveal their ball to the sharks.
